Surgical Review:

Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Neuropathology Conference Room (A722 Scaife Hall) attended by all Division clinical faculty and fellows

Evaluation of challenging surgical pathology and autopsy cases

Discrepancies between frozen and final diagnosis are reviewed and evaluated based on the following criteria:

a. Failure to identify the lesion grossly
b. Inappropriate selection of material for evaluation
c. Sectioning problem
d. Staining problem
e. Interpretation problem
f. Failure to communicate with surgeon
g. Labeling problem

Disagreement categories

A - Minor - Disagreement with no effect on patient care
B - Some - but not significant consequences for patient care
C - Major - serious impact on patient care

Bi-annual review of all flagged problematic cases.
